Energy Assistance
The Low Income Energy Assistance Program provides a one-time cash payment to help eligible families pay their heating
bills (if Federal funds are available). Food Stamp recipients will automatically get a check, if they are active at the
beginning of the month of October, and are coded to receive, based on the information given to their worker at application
or review. Persons may also come to the Department of Social Services or send a representative to apply. Applications
are taken for a limited period. The eligible households receive a check in early February, if Federal funds are available.
