Recording Documents
Instruments may be recorded in person or mailed in. Do not send cash. A check or money order made payable to the
Register of Deeds is preferred. There will be a $25 fee for returned checks. A self-addressed envelope will insure
prompt return.

| GENERAL FEES - Instruments in General |
- For filing or registering corporation charters, partnership records or
other instruments when no other specific provision is made - $14.00 for the
first page (includes $2 Verification fee GS 47-14), plus $3.00 for each additional page,
or fraction (pages larger than 8 1/2" x 14" treated as two)
- For filing or registering deeds when no other specific provision is made - $19.00 for the
first page (includes $2 Verification fee GS 47-14), plus $3.00 for each additional page,
or fraction (pages larger than 8 1/2" x 14" treated as two)
- For filing or registering deeds of trust or mortgages - $30.00 for the first
page (includes $2 Verification fee GS 47-14), plus $3.00 for each additional page, or
fraction (pages larger than 8 1/2" x 14" treated as two)
- Verification - $2.00 (G.S. 47-14) for passing on certificates or proof of acknowledgment
- Multiple Documents - shows on the first page it contains two or more instruments that could be recorded separately (i.e. Deed of Trust and Req. for Notice); $10 for each additional instrument. Note: Register is not required to index any multiple instrument whose title does not appear on the first page of the document.
- Non-standard Documents - $25.00 in addition to other applicable recording fees (see G.S. 161-14b for recording standards)
- Comparing Copy for Certification - for comparing and certifying copy of instrument filed for registration when copy is furnished
by party filing instrument at time recorded - $5.00 per instrument
- Acknowledgement - $3.00 - for taking acknowledgment, oath or affirmation, or for performance of any notarial act, done in
conjunction with any official action performed within the Register of Deeds office
- Removal of Graves certificate - $12.00 for the first page, plus $3.00 for each additional page
- Foreclosure by Trustee - $5.00
(Other services are covered by general fee provisions)
- Plats - each original or revised plat recorded - $21.00 per page
- Right of Way Plans - each original or amended plan and profile sheet recorded - $21.00 for the first page, plus $5.00 for each additional page
- Torrens Registration - such fees as are provided for instruments in general
- Blank or Master Forms - such fees as are provided for instruments in general
