Forsyth County Public Library Launches Second Annual Artist-in-Residence Program

The Forsyth County Public Library invites emerging and established artists in the Forsyth County area to apply for its second Artist-in-Residence program. We are looking for artists in all disciplines to share their creative process with the community through time spent at branches and with the Library Outreach division, collaborating with Library staff to provide educational programs or discussions.

The Artist-in-Residence program will culminate with a final project to be presented at the Forsyth County Central Library. The Central Library is a state-of-the-art facility that includes a Makerspace, an art gallery, a sound-editing studio and a 280-seat auditorium with a drop-down screen and sound system, all situated on a beautiful campus with a grass lawn and reading garden in downtown Winston-Salem.

Two artists will be chosen for residency, and each will receive a $6,000 stipend plus a materials budget of $1,500, with additional programming supplies provided by the Library.

Artist in Residence Timeline

  • Week of Feb. 20: Artist-in-Residence application announcement
  • Sunday, March 24: Application deadline
  • April 2024: Application review
  • Late April 2024: Artist-in-Residence selection announcement
  • May 2024: Residency begins

What are the expectations?

Artists will provide one class/workshop/demonstration in six locations: five branches and the Central Library. As this project is being viewed as a partnership between selected artists and the Library, artists may also have opportunities to further engage with staff in support of other customer-facing Library projects, as well as spending studio time at FCPL. The nature of the artists’ work will influence the direction of the residency. The 2024 residency will culminate in a final public exhibit/presentation/performance.

Who is eligible?

Artists in Forsyth County and surrounding areas working in visual, performance, writing, or interdisciplinary media are eligible to apply. Applicants must be 21 years of age and not currently enrolled in an undergraduate art or creative program.

How Do I Apply?

After downloading and completing the Artist-in-Residence application, email the completed application form and supporting documents to Nan La Rosee, assistant library director, at laroseal@forsyth.cc. The application deadline is Sunday, March 24, 2024.
