In an effort to make sure that young girls today have current and accurate information to help them make good life choices, the Carver School Road Branch Library is offering monthly programs for girls ages 11-16. Started in 2007, The Girls With A Purpose (GWAP) offers various programs including classes on etiquette, self-esteem, finances, SAT preparation and collaboration with other programs for college visits for high school age girls.
In 2008 GWAP was a recipient of a Women’s Fund Grant enabling them to offer several life skills workshops. Today classes are presented by professionals from wide array of local agencies and organizations. Recently Carver has partnered with Department of Social Services, Relatives As Parents Program (RAPP) to further extend programming and information to this age group.
Programs run from September thru May on the third Wednesday of each month except when noted. For more information please contact Youth Services Librarian, Lara Crews at 336-703-2910 or RAPP Program Coordinator, Teresa Bryant at 336-703-3744.
A tentative list of the remaining programs for the 2010-11 school year. All programs begin at 4:00 pm at Carver School Road branch Library.
