Nonprofit Resource Center

Foundation Center
The Forsyth County Public Library offers research materials on a wide array of topics of interest to the nonprofit sector. The NRC collection, found in the Business, Science & ACE Department at the Central Library, is one of over 300 Cooperating Collections affiliated with the Foundation Center in New York. The Nonprofit Resource Center is available anytime the library is open. Appointments are available for those who wish to have an in-depth orientation to the collection and its uses.

Use these sources to create a list of potential funders based upon: 1) fields of interest; 2) geography; and 3) types of support.

  • Annual Register of Grant Support: A Directory of Funding Sources / Bowker. Entries arranged alphabetically by discipline. (R001.44 A)
  • Foundation Grants Index tracks grants of $10,000 or more awarded by the 1000 largest foundations. (R061 F)
  • Guide to US Foundations, Their Trustees, Officers and Donors includes basic information on all active grantmaking foundations in the US. (R361.763 G)
  • The Foundation Directory (R061 F) and The Foundation 1000 (R361.763 F ). Each offers information on selected foundations including fiscal data, limitations on giving and application information.

FC Search
The Foundation Center's database on CD-ROM covers over 74,500 US foundations and corporate givers. It includes descriptions of grants and lists trustees, officers and donors. Updated twice a year. Appointments may be made for 2 hours, one day in advance.

The IRS Form 990-PF
This form is filed annually with the Internal Revenue Service by all private foundations. It includes the following basic information about foundation activities: 1) assets; 2) officers and trustees; 3) list of grants and contributions paid. Many 990-PFs are available on the internet at the Foundation Center's web site.

  • The Chronicle Of Philanthropy - Reports on issues and trends in the nonprofit sector, gives updates on grantmaking activities, profiles individuals, corporations, foundations, and nonprofit organizations. Lists recent grants, conferences and seminars.
  • Corporate Philanthropy Report - Gives brief reports on issues and trends in corporate philanthropy.
  • Foundation News and Commentary - Reports on current developments in grantmaking, with news, feature profiles, and special reports on the foundation world.

NonProfit Connections, in partnership with Forsyth County Public Library, builds and strengthens the capacity of area nonprofits to fulfill their missions and enhance the vitality of our community. NonProfit Connections provides information and education, promotes empowerment and advocacy, facilitates networking and mentoring and fosters connections and collaboration.
