The downtown Central Library is currently seeking volunteer Instructor Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Open Lab
Coaches to work in the Computer Learning Center. Classes are free to Forsyth County
Public Library cardholders. Up to 12 people "learn as a team" in topics such as computer literacy, internet/email,
Microsoft Word/Excel and genealogy.
INSTRUCTOR COACH
Teaches computer software to up to 18 library patrons in a friendly class setting. Classes are taught in the Computer
Learning Center at the downtown Central Library. Teaching usually takes place from the front of the classroom at the
Instructor's workstation, which has video projection capabilities. An Assistant Coach helps the Instructor Coach by
assisting students individually as the class is in session. Instructor Coaches often see a need for a class not
currently being offered. Several of our Instructor Coaches have enjoyed assisting with or developing course curriculum.
Major Responsibilities
Teach computer classes using Microsoft software and tutorials and the latest computer hardware located in our Computer
Learning Center. Must be proficient in the use of the software package he/she will teach such as Word, Internet
Explorer, or Excel etc. The ideal volunteer will be comfortable speaking in front of 18 students and be able to adapt
to all levels of learning. Assures that each piece of equipment is ready for use prior to the start of the class.
Qualifications
Enjoys working with all ages and skill levels. Knowledgeable in at least one software package and can adapt to
different user needs.
Time Commitment
Typical time commitment is the length of a class. Classes are 1-3 hours, one day a week, for duration of 1-4 weeks.
Classes may be taught in the morning, afternoon, evenings, or weekends.
ASSISTANT COACH
Provides one-on-one assistance for up to 18 students while the Instructor Coach leads the class in learning software
skills. Classes are held at the downtown Central Library.
Major Responsibilities
Assists Instructor Coach with computer classes by helping students individually as the class is in session. Must be
proficient in the use of the software package that is being taught, such as Word, Internet Explorer, or Excel etc. The
ideal candidate will be comfortable working with people one-on-one, in a group setting. He/she will also able to adapt
to all levels of learning. Assists Instructor Coach before and after class with equipment and assures that each piece
of equipment is ready for use prior to the start of the class.

Must be 18 years or older. Enjoys working with all ages and skill levels. Knowledgeable of the software package being
taught and can adapt to different user needs.

OPEN LAB COACH
Assists up to 18 library patrons as they use computers and software in the Computer Learning Center of the downtown
Central library during Open Lab hours.
Major Responsibilities
Assists patrons with searching the Internet, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, and other Windows products as
appropriate, in addition to assisting with computer-based and web-based tutorials. Assigns patrons workstations and
monitors usage. Assures that each piece of equipment is ready for use by the next patron.
Qualifications
Age 16 or older. Enjoys working with all ages and skill levels. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word and
Internet searching is essential. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to brush up on the latest
technology while helping others.
Time Commitment
Usually 1-3 hours, one day a week, for two to three months. Open lab coaching is needed in the morning, afternoon,
evening, and weekends.
