Free Library Cards for you and your family, friends, and neighbors!
Residents of Forsyth County and 14 nearby counties (see list below) can get a FREE
library card. Residents of other counties may obtain a card for a $10 annual fee.
Just stop by the circulation desk at any of 10 branches of the Forsyth County Public
Library. All you need is proof of identity and your current address (a valid driver's
license is ideal or another form of picture id). If your address is different than
what's on your driver's license, then we ask that you provide another document with
your current address, such as two current pieces of mail or a personal check.
Residents of these counties can get a free FCPL Library Card: Alamance, Caswell,
Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Orange, Person, Randolph,
Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin.
Obtaining a Library Card for Children
A parent or guardian may obtain a library card for a child by simply following the
steps listed above. Children as young as four may have a library card.
Card Holder Responsibilities
Your library card holder responsibilities include:
- You must present your library card for all library transactions.
- Books and materials must be returned in good condition.
- A late fine of $2.00/day per item is charged for DVDs and videos with a maximum
fine of $10.00 per item. You will not be allowed to check out materials if you have
video or DVD fines on your record.
- Loan periods:
- 3 weeks (books, magazines, documents)
- 2 weeks (audiobooks)
- 2 weeks with no renewals (Popular Library collections)
- 1 week with no renewals (DVDs and videos)
- Please report lost or stolen cards, or you will be held responsible for items checked
out. First two replacement cards cost $1.00. Additional replacement cards cost $5.00
each.

Renewals can be made in person, online, or by calling your favorite branch. Most
materials may be renewed four (4) times. Videocassettes, DVDs, and e-books are not
renewable. Materials with a limited loan period, or that have been requested, cannot
be renewed.
