Programs for Families, Teens, & Children all Summer at Walkertown Branch

June and July bring weekly programs for all ages at Walkertown Branch. Read more to find free activities for your teens, tweens, and children. We hope that every week your kids will ask for someone to please take them to the library!

Music & Movement for Ages 1 - 5
Thursdays, June 9 - July 28, 10:30 - 11 am
Clap, sing, and dance along to family-friendly songs and rhymes which develop literacy, tonality, and rhythm while providing easy exercise and a chance to socialize with other kids and caregivers. Free and open to ages 1-5 with caregivers. Siblings also welcome.

ABC/1-2-3 Evening Family Storytime
Mondays, June 27 and July 25, 6:30 - 7 pm
Features picture books involving alphabet and counting concepts presented with songs, rhymes, and fingerplays. All ages of children are invited together with caregivers on the second Monday of each month.

WFU Museum of Anthropology for Teens: Symbols of Strength
Wednesday, June 29, 2 - 3 pm
Using cloth and other objects from MOA’s collections, teens will examine West African Adinkra symbols, which are used for strength, protection, and well being. Teens will then create and decorate unique tiles using their choice of Adinkra symbols. Free and open to rising 6th-12th graders. Registration required. Call 336-703-2990.

Teens: Songwriting Workshop with Big Bang Boom

Songwriting....it’s much easier AND harder than you think. Steve Williard, Eddie Walker, and Chuck Folds have written hundreds of songs and made countless recordings. Aspiring teenaged musicians and songwriters are invited to let their creativity flow with these music industry veterans. Call to register: 336-703-2990.

Big Bang Boom! Family Rock Concert
Wednesday, July 6 @ 2 pm
Rock out with this all-dad band. Interactive songs and energizing family music will make you smile, laugh, tap your feet, and maybe even DANCE. Free and open to ages 1 to 91. Groups, please call ahead: 336-703-2990.

Any-Age Song & Rhyme Family Storytime
Saturday, July 9, 2 - 2:30 pm
Drop in on a Saturday afternoon for kids’ favorite funny stories along with songs, rhymes, and rhythm instrument play. Targeting ages 2 - 4; for all ages with parent or caregiver.

Read to a Dog at the Library
July 11, 6 - 7 pm
Ages 3 - 11 are invited to practice reading aloud with a furry listener, a certified therapy dog trained for gentleness to children. Registration required. Call 336-703-2990.

Tuesday Morning Children’s Storytime
Tuesdays, 10:30 - 11 am: July 12, 19, & 26
Note--No Storytime on July 5th.
Enjoy irresistible picture books along with songs, rhymes, and simple games or crafts. Ages 1-5 with siblings welcome. Groups, please call ahead: 336-703-2990.

Pointillism Painting with Dot Duggins
Wednesday, July 13 @ 1 pm
Local artist Dot Duggins will lead young artists ages 7 and up in creating colorful paintings with Q-tips and designs of your choice. Registration required. Call 336-703-2990.

Clay Impressions
Wednesday, July 13 @ 3 pm

Learn about air-dry clay and design your own decorative bowl. Program for youth in grades 6-12. As attendance is limited, registration is suggested. Small groups may call ahead to verify space available: 336-703-2990.

Teens: Yoga for Teens with Lisa Kushner
Monday, July 18 @ 2 pm

Note: Parent must sign participation waiver at or before start of class.
Stretch and deeply relax your mind and body. Bring a mat, towel, or blanket. Dress in comfortable, movable clothes. This teen program is free and open to ages 11 and up. Registration suggested, required for groups: 336-703-2990.

Hands-On Drumming with Hashim Selah

The Balloon Lady, Donna Pruett
Friday, July 29 @ 2 pm

Experience the fun of seeing balloon creations come to life. Using music, humor, and her trademark enthusiasm, this sculptor and her balloons remind us to read, read, read! Groups, please call ahead: 336-703-2990. Note: Come early for a seat as attendance has fire safety limits.

Chalk, Prizes, & Movie Day
Saturday, July 30, 1 pm -- movie starting at 2:15 pm

Make your colorful marks on our sidewalk at 1 pm, then come in for Summer Reading prize drawings for teens, tweens, and children who have read or listened to books during June and July. At 2:15 pm, enjoy a favorite PG-rated film on our auditorium's big screen--Zootopia.
