COUNTY DEPARTMENT LIST |
Page Turner Book ClubWhat is a Book Club? A book club is a literature program involving a group of young readers all enjoying the same book and discussing it as a group. Some of the desired goals are an appreciation of fine literature, the development of broadened areas of reading interest, and an improvement of reading skills. Through sharing ideas with others in the group, each participant will use critical thinking effectively, communicate more clearly, and learn to respect the opinions of others. Books to be read and discussed will be chosen from a variety genres, including children’s book award winners. I recommend that adults read and enjoy these works with the book club participant, and begin discussions at home. The insights you and your child may share in this exchange of ideas could be invaluable. The group will meet at Central Library in the story room located in the Children’s Department from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the following months: February, April, June, July, August, October, and December. Snacks will be provided at each meeting. Each book club participant must have read the book selected for the month. Adults should encourage the participant to read the book early in the month. Please be on time so that all the planned activities can be covered within the two-hour session. The adult leader of the book club program acts as a moderator only. The role of the leader is to guide the discussion to important concepts, help the participants stay on the subject at hand, and encourage everyone in the group to participate. It is my intent that this experience will be an enjoyable one for each participant with the opportunity to make new friends who love to read. If at any time you have questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. For reading fun, Carole Bonnell P.S. Don’t forget your library card! View our Book Discussion Guidelines |
