The intent of the Child Support Services program is to ensure that both parents are responsible for the financial support of their children to the best of their ability. Child Support Services assists families with locating non-custodial parents, establishing paternity and support obligations, collecting support and enforcing court orders for support payments for children. Medical insurance coverage can be included in the support obligation.

When a non-custodial parent lives outside the state of North Carolina, Child Support staff work in cooperation with other states to establish paternity and support for these families. Child Support services are provided to all Work First Family Assistance recipients and are available to other county residents upon application and payment of a nominal fee.
